We Will All Be Blessed

“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." (Genesis 12:3)

God was talking to Abraham. Few Christians seem to realize that Abraham was NOT a Jew nor was he a citizen of ISRAEL. He was from a region in modern day Southern Iraq known as Sumer and he was the Grandfather of Jacob who would become ISRAEL. God did not make the conditional covenant with Israel until they came out of Egypt in the time of Moses, more than 400 years after God pronounced the above curse on those who would curse Abraham. God’s promised to bless Abraham and His promise was unconditional.

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:2)

Abraham was also the father of Ismael as well as six sons by his wife Keturah. All of them are descendants of Abraham.

There is a place in Scripture where God says He will curse those who curse ISRAEL. It is found in Numbers as follows when the Moabite King Balak tried to hire the prophet Balaam to curse Israel but instead God told Balaam to say this about Israel…

“May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you be cursed!” (Numbers 24:9)

But note the warning is to those who CURSE Abraham or Israel. There is no place in Scripture where God places a curse on any nation who does not support or come to the aid of ISRAEL. It is GOD who SUPPORTS ISRAEL…they do not need the help of any Nation. Those who try to CURSE Israel will themselves be cursed, however, even they will eventually "be blessed" through the finished work of the greatest Jew, Jesus, the Son of God and Savior of the world.
