Approaching the Throne of God

“Esther spoke…All the royal officials and the people of the royal provinces know that one law applies to every man or woman who approaches the king in the inner courtyard and who has not been summoned—the death penalty. Only if the king extends the gold scepter will that person live.” (Esther 4:10-11)

This is a familiar story in the Bible. Esther was asked to go to the King and request salvation for her people. She knew that if she went to the King without being summoned she would die if not received. Esther summoned the courage and went to the King to plead for her salvation and that of her people filled with fear and uncertainty about her future.

Unfortunately for mankind, many theologians of Christianity have portrayed God as such a King as this. There is fear and anxiety surrounding the uncertainty of what God will do to us if and when we approach Him, and especially if we do not approach Him at all. Yet the Bible assures us that God loves the whole world and sent His Son Jesus to save it rather than condemn it…

“God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son…God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world...” (John 3:16-17)

God reached out in a Father’s love to mankind. It was God who reached out and GAVE the world a Savior. Jesus came to save sinners and show us the love of the Father and to assure us of our salvation. He does not expect us to come to Him and beg for it in fear and uncertainty, but in faith, believing he has and will save us. He knows that when we understand this we will thank Him and love Him back.

The Bible says that God's gift of His Son Jesus will eventually draw all people to Jesus as the result of Jesus being lifted up on the cross and then lifted out of "the earth" at his resurrection...

"As for me, if I am lifted up from the earth I will draw all people to myself." (John 12:32)
The result of believing God is that we can die in PEACE…

“I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world…The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact expression of His nature, sustaining all things by His powerful Word. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high…” (John 16:33; Hebrews 1:3)

Mankind is encouraged to come to the throne of God boldly, without fear. And what do we obtain and find there? MERCY and GRACE!

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the Throne of Grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16).
